Boat Description
MOODY S31 BILGE KEEL – 1999 – "JUNO"
A superb example of Bill Dixon's highly regarded Moody S31, JUNO is a versatile and comfortable cruiser with the added practicality of twin bilge keels, allowing access to shallow cruising grounds, drying moorings and beaching opportunities that are simply unavailable to many fin keel yachts.
Launched in 1999 and in her current ownership since 2009, JUNO has never been raced or chartered and has been carefully maintained for private cruising. The Moody S31 is widely recognised as one of Moody's most successful modern designs, combining excellent sailing performance with spacious accommodation and reassuring offshore capability.
Powered by a reliable Volvo Penta MD2020 19hp freshwater-cooled diesel engine, the boat benefits from a recent engine service together with a recently renewed saildrive leg seal, offering valuable peace of mind for her next owner. A Darglow Flexofold folding propeller and Ambassador rope cutter further enhance performance and practicality under power.
On deck, the fractional 9/10ths rig is straightforward to handle and equipped with a Furlex furling genoa system, slab reefing mainsail, stack pack and lazyjacks. Her sail wardrobe includes a part-battened Hood mainsail and a Jeckells genoa with foam luff, providing an excellent balance of cruising comfort and sailing efficiency.
Navigation equipment includes Garmin chart plotting with AIS target display, speed, depth and wind instrumentation, GPS, DSC VHF radio with integrated AIS, dual compasses and autopilot steering. Together these provide a comprehensive navigation package for coastal cruising and longer passages.
The spacious cockpit benefits from wheel steering, with the original tiller retained as emergency steering, whilst the teak cockpit seating and quality sprayhood create a comfortable environment for both sailing and relaxing at anchor.
Below decks, the Moody S31 offers accommodation that belies her length. There is a generous aft double cabin, a forward double cabin, two additional saloon berths, a proper rear-facing chart table and a well-equipped galley. Hot and cold pressurised water, Eberspächer diesel heating, Waeco refrigeration and a holding tank make her equally comfortable for extended cruising or weekends aboard.
Additional features include:
