For Sale – 1979 Cobra 850 – Solid Coastal Cruiser with Proven Pedigree

We are pleased to present this ready-to-sail example of the Cobra 850, a popular and capable family cruiser from Cobra Yachts of Hayling Island. First launched in 1979, this particular vessel benefits from the twin bilge keel configuration, making her ideal for cruising in shallower waters, drying moorings, and exploring estuaries without compromising stability under sail.

Designed with comfort and performance in mind, the Cobra 850 offers a well-balanced sailing experience. With a moderate displacement of 7,750 lbs and a generous sail area of 428 sq ft (main and genoa), she is both responsive and forgiving—equally suited to weekend sailing or extended coastal cruising.

Below decks, she features a practical and welcoming layout, with accommodation for up to five in two cabins: a cosy forecabin and a spacious saloon. The interior fit-out reflects the home-built nature of many Cobras of this era, with a mix of finishes depending on original builder specification—this vessel has been lovingly maintained and presents as a comfortable cruiser with excellent headroom and usability.

She is has been used regulalry by the same woners for ten years and here engine has been serviced annually. The engine starts easily from cold and runs sweetly.

The vessel has a mainsail (in good order) which stows into a sailbag on the boom. The furling jib is also in good order and has had a recent UV strip fitted.

Seraph is named after HMS Seraph, the Royal Navy submarine involved in Operation Mincemeat during WW2. It is understood that her commissioning owner was involved in the operation aboard HMS Seraph.

She is for sale by a motivated seller who is highly-motivated to sell quickly. Offers are invited.
