Boat Description

Macwester Wight 32 Ketch Lazy Days

1974 | Bilge keels | Emsworth Yacht Harbour

Lazy Days is a 1974 Macwester Wight 32 ketch with bilge keels, a centre cockpit and a separate aft cabin. Her shallow draft makes her well suited to exploring harbours and estuaries, while the ketch rig offers a flexible sail plan for cruising. She has a replacement Thornycroft/Mitsubishi diesel and benefited from extensive mast and rigging work in 2024.

Hull and deck

Lazy Days has a glassfibre hull painted in a two-pack marine finish. Her bilge keels give her a published draft of approximately one metre. The centre cockpit provides a sheltered position from which to sail and separates the main accommodation from the aft cabin.

A previous owner carried out a substantial refurbishment. According to the current owner, this included painting the hull and deck, renewing the cockpit and saloon floors, fitting teak strips to the hatch covers, replacing both mast tabernacles, and renewing deck fittings, stanchions and chainplates. The interior was also refitted with mahogany sides finished in teak veneer.

The current owner reports that a pre-purchase survey described the refurbishment as being to a high standard. That survey records the boat’s condition at the time it was undertaken; her present condition should be assessed by inspection.

Rig and sails

The original masts were repaired by Rigit of Southampton in 2024. Rigit also completely replaced the standing rigging, including an additional triatic stay. The current owner replaced the running rigging at the same time.

The sail inventory comprises:

Mainsail
Genoa
Mizzen
Cruising chute with snuffer, described by the owner as unused
Sail covers
The ages of the mainsail, genoa and mizzen are unknown. A cockpit sprayhood, made during the previous ownership, is also included.

Engine

The original engine has been replaced with a Thornycroft/Mitsubishi diesel, fitted before the current owner purchased Lazy Days in 2007. The owner advises that the original propeller shaft and coupling were replaced. An engine log and service history covering the current ownership are available.

The engine model, rated horsepower, installation date and hours have yet to be confirmed.

Navigation and electrical equipment

The equipment reported aboard includes:

Garmin chartplotter and fishfinder
AdvanSea Multi log and depth sounder
DSC VHF marine radio
Autohelm 400, described by the owner as rarely used but serviceable
Binnacle compass at the steering wheel
Cockpit bulkhead compass, also visible from the saloon
Engine RPM display and oil-pressure gauge
Trident Smart battery charger
Accommodation, galley and heads

The Wight 32 layout offers a main saloon, forward accommodation and a separate aft cabin. The number and arrangement of berths aboard Lazy Days should be confirmed during inspection.

The galley has a gimballed two-burner gas cooker with oven and grill and a double sink supplied with hot and cold water. The owner reports gas isolation points below the cooker and at the bottle in a vented cockpit locker.

The heads compartment has a portable toilet and a washbasin with hot and cold water.

Documentation

An engine log and service history from the current owner’s purchase in 2007 are available. Supporting invoices for the 2024 mast and rigging work, together with the yacht’s title and other documentation, should be reviewed as part of a purchase.

These particulars are prepared from information supplied by the owner and published model specifications. They are intended as a guide; buyers should verify measurements, equipment, documentation and condition by inspection and survey.
