Boat Description

1992 Beneteau Oceanis 300 – “Mudskipper II”
Rare Twin Hydraulic Lifting Keel Version

“Mudskipper II” is an exceptionally rare example of the highly regarded Beneteau Oceanis 300, designed by Groupe Finot and based on the proven Figaro One Design racing hull. Combining rewarding sailing performance with practical cruising comfort, she is a capable and versatile yacht ideally suited to the shallow waters of Chichester Harbour and beyond.

What truly sets this yacht apart is her unique twin hydraulic lifting keel configuration — one of only two examples imported to the UK. The hydraulically operated cast iron swing keels reduce her draft from 2.1m to an impressive 0.75m, allowing access to shallow creeks, drying harbours and secluded anchorages inaccessible to most yachts of this size. Twin rudders ensure excellent control under sail, while the ability to dry out upright on mud or sand opens up an entirely different style of cruising. Whether exploring East Head, tucked-away estuaries or economical drying moorings, “Mudskipper II” offers remarkable freedom and flexibility.

Equally impressive is her upgraded Beta Marine 30hp diesel engine, professionally installed in 2016 and very lightly used since. This modern installation provides reliable, economical and quiet cruising performance, complemented by an upgraded gearbox and a 3-bladed Kiwi self-feathering propeller for improved efficiency and manoeuvrability. Together, the modern propulsion package transforms the yacht’s usability and gives significant peace of mind compared with many yachts of this era still operating with original engines.

On deck, she is configured for straightforward short-handed sailing, with all control lines led aft, tiller steering and in-mast furling mainsail handling. Her sail inventory includes a Doyle swing-battened mainsail, furling genoa, cruising chute and spinnaker pole, while standing rigging was renewed in 2021.

Below decks, the Oceanis 300 offers a surprisingly spacious and comfortable interior for a 31-footer, with over 6ft headroom, warm cherry wood finishes and accommodation for six across two cabins and the saloon. The well-equipped galley, separate heads compartment, hot and cold pressurised water, solar panel, inverter and generous storage make her equally suitable for extended cruising or comfortable weekends aboard.

Lovingly maintained by her sole owner from new, “Mudskipper II” presents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuinely distinctive and capable cruising yacht with exceptional shallow-water versatility, upgraded modern engineering and proven Finot performance pedigree.
